The Great Wall at Mutianyu

Today we went to see the Great Wall in an area 70km north east of Beijing. It was great; in fact it was amazing. We chose this section of the wall because of its stunning scenery and hoped it would be less crowded than the areas which are easier to get to from Beijing.

This evening we went out for Peking duck.

Beijing - The Forbidden City

Today we visited the Forbidden City. It is a massive collection of palaces and courtyards lived in by emperors from 1420 to 1912. It was very busy and very hot.

Mongolian food and drink

 Jon enjoying a pre-dinner drink.

 Jon's favourite beer

 My favourite beer.

Salad starter. This was a pleasant surprise as we had been told the food would be very meat-heavy.

 Unidentified stir fried meat.

 Mmmm. Jelly with sprinkles.

Second round of dumplings for the day.

At 4.8% we're not sure how this was "light", but after 3 days in the desert, a cold beer was very necessary.
